Healthy Dinner Rolls

low calorie dinner rolls
Admittedly, bread is a downfall for many dieters.  And this is doubly true when it comes to holiday celebrations and get-togethers. I *love* bread, and I have posted before on Ozery Bakery Buns that I like and that many of you have tried since that posting.  But there are times that just call for a dinner roll, aren’t there?  As a child, I remember passing a basket with delicious dinner rolls around the table during the holidays, and there was never any doubt that they would all be eaten before the meal was finished.  Luckily, I happened upon a delicious Betty Crocker recipe that I modified to make vegan.  These yummy rolls are just 116 calories per serving with no cholesterol, and three grams of protein. They are 2 weight watchers points on the old points program (not sure yet about points for the new points plus ww program since they are significantly more difficult to calculate for recipes, but if you really need to know, email me and I'm happy to figure it out for you!) .

Yummy Vegan Dinner Rolls
2 ¼ cups flour, or whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
¼ ounce (one package) yeast
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons Promise Buttery Spread
½ cup silk tofu, pureed

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix 1 ¼ cup of flour with sugar, yeast, and salt in a mixing bowl.  Add the water, the Promise Buttery Spread, and the tofu, beating until smooth.  Stir in remaining cup of flour.  Cover and allow to rise for about an hour or so.  Spray the inside of muffin tins with fat-free spray (or use a mister to mist olive oil into the cups).  Allow the batter another 30 minutes to rise within the cups.  Bake for twenty minutes or until golden brown.  This recipe makes a dozen rolls, but you can easily double it or even triple it for larger crowds.

These are perfect for a holiday celebration or special dinner, or just anytime that you want a yummy dinner roll without the added calories.  Remember, instead of butter, opt for Promise Buttery Spread or olive oil as a delicious topping!

Enjoy!

I just put this into the builder and they are 3P+.

Thanks! I can't wait to try them out.

Vegan doesn't really mean healthy, especially if you're using white flour! That's what I don't like about WW and why I'll never do it. They may be 2 points but I wouldn't want to eat them regularly. I'll stick with whole grains.

Just made these and they came out great! Doesn't even taste "light", by any means!

Thank you!

Jenna - good point. I altered the post accordingly. I think using whole wheat flour is a great idea!

Thanks Erin for the point value!

And anonymous, glad you liked them. :)

Hi Juliet!
Those rolls look amazing!
Thanks for the comment on my blog! I just posted part 2, so I can't wait to hear what your thoughts are! I believe the Health benefits (those that live longer, healthier etc) attributed to Soy, are only FERMENTED soy products. These are different from Soy, and offer so many amazing health benefits! Asian cultures primarily eat fermented products (miso, tempeh, soy sauce, kimchi, natto etc). Have an amazing holiday and thanks for the great recipe!
