Nada Moo Ice Cream

nadamoo low calorie ice creamI recently found another delicious lower calorie ice cream substitute at Whole Foods called Nada Moo. This ice cream is unique from other low calorie ice creams and low calorie frozen yogurts I've found, as it is made from coconut milk and brown rice milk, so it is not soy based and it is dairy free (note: the label has a disclaimer that says it contains soy within its ingredients, but because the ice cream is not soy based, it does not have that soy taste that some people abhor).

One of my favorite parts of this ice cream is its subtle coconut taste, even in the non-coconut flavors. I'm always in search of yummy low calorie foods with coconut flavor in them (even if it is subtle), so when I found a low calorie coconut based ice cream, I was thrilled! Nada Moo is also really creamy, which I absolutely love!

Nada Moo comes in the following flavors: Lotta Mint Chip (my favorite!), "Vanilla...ahhh!", Creamy Coconut, "mmm...Maple Pecan", and "Gotta Do Chocolate". The flavors range from 120 calories to 150 calories, and have 5 grams of fiber (so 2-3 weight watchers points, depending on the flavor you buy) and are made with agave nectar which is a lower glycemic way of adding sweetness to food (and was recommended by Dr. Oz during one of his appearances on Oprah!). The ice creams are slightly higher in fat (range is from 5-8 grams) than some of the other low calorie ice creams because of the coconut milk, which is a bit of a bummer (I consider it borderline, but because of the high fiber, and protein content, and delicious taste, I've decided it is okay for my diet). Their lowest calorie flavor "Vanilla...ahhh!" is 120 calories, 5 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber.

I buy Nada Moo at Whole Foods, and their website has a nice list of the stores that carry their ice cream.

By the way, in case you missed it, I also recently blogged about a really tasty coconut milk yogurt that is worth checking out if you also like the taste of coconut.

Enjoy!
Juliet

I'm so happy this is dairy free! Next time I'm at Whole Foods, I'm getting this. I always get a new ice cream when I'm there because they have so many kinds. Have you tried Purely Decadent? It's not very low cal, but it IS ice cream haha

I will try this! Coconut milk and coconut butter are very good for you, along with the agave. A light, healthy treat!

Hi, this is Amy from NadaMoo! - thanks so much for your post. NadaMoo! comes right from my heart: I came up with the recipe for my sister, who has some food allergies/intolerances. It's a lot fun to watch the company grow and meet so many wonderful new people through NadaMoo!. Keep an eye on our website for news on local events and new flavors. Enjoy!

I know what you mean, Amy! I think it's really great that you care so much about your product. I'm lactose intolerant, so that eliminates the whole dairy group anyway. Where is NadaMoo being sold? I'm going to Whole Foods this weekend and I just hope they have it.

That's a huge bummer. Did you check out their store locator page? Maybe it is available somewhere else near you. Finding it is worth it!!
