Jarlsberg Low Calorie Cheese - You can have cheese on a diet!

jarlsberg low calorie swiss cheeseI have somewhat of a love-hate relationship with cheese. I love the taste, the texture and even the smell of cheese, but I hate the way it seems to go right to my hips! Fortunately there’s several delicious cheeses that don't have me warring with the scales after just a slice or two – and Jarlsberg’s Light Cheese from Norseland is one of them. You may be familiar with Jarlsberg’s regular cheeses – and if so, you’ll be happy to learn that their light cheeses contain just half the fat and one-third less calories than their regular counterparts.

Each ¾-ounce slice of Jarlsberg light cheese has just 50 little calories and no trans-fats while providing you with 20 percent of the calcium and Vitamin C that you need each day. This cheese is available in wheels, but I prefer the thin slices so that you know exactly how much you are getting without the need to weigh the cheese with a food scale or get out the knife. The taste of Jarlsberg could best be described as a bit nutty and mildly sweet.

One thing that sets this cheese apart from others like it is that it actually tastes like cheese. I’ve tasted some light versions of cheese that taste more like plastic than cheese, and you likely have too! Not the case with Jarlsberg – and if you’ve ever eaten Jarlsberg cheese, you know the quality already.

I usually enjoy this cheese as a snack with some low-cal thin, wheat crackers, but it is also great for making a low-calorie grilled cheese sandwich (be sure to substitute low-cal butter spread for the butter or margarine. I like to use whole grain bread for making grilled cheese – and this is a perfect accompanying sandwich for my Chili Edamame – and together this makes a meal that the whole family will love and that you can feel good about serving to them.

You can find this yummy cheese at Albertson’s, Costco, Whole Foods, and even Sam’s Club!

And, if you are looking for other yummy low calorie cheese options, you might also like to check out some of my other low calorie cheese postings: low calorie goat cheese, babybel cheese, low calorie string cheeselaughing cow cheese bites, and delicious low calorie jalapeno jack and cheddar cheese.

Enjoy!

I will have to keep an eye out for this--usually you can't find low-fat cheese that melts good!
