Voskos Greek Yogurt

voskos greek yogurtI've been and continue to be a a huge fan of Fage yogurt! In case you've never had it, Fage 0% Greek style yogurt is extremely thick (*way* beyond what one would expect from a fat free yogurt), creamy, low calorie, and delicious. From my point of view, the only drawback of Fage is that it doesn't come flavored like most yogurts (fruit flavors do come with fruit "topping" on the side, but that just isn't the same to me).

The lack of flavoring makes Fage a perfect base for adding low calorie granola, frozen fruit, or other yummy foods like cocoa nibs. But, as much as I like adding all of those wonderful toppings, it isn't as convenient to do so at work where I love eating yogurt for lunch. So, despite my love for Fage, I'm always on the lookout for other delicious fruity flavored Greek yogurts.

So, this weekend I decided to try wild blueberry flavored Voskos Greek yogurt which I found at my local Whole Foods. I wasn't feeling overly optimistic about it (I've tried some other flavored Greek yogurts that haven't really knocked my socks off), but I was hopeful it would be good. And, wow, it totally delivered! It was thick, creamy, fruity (the blueberry blend was perfect), and delicious! I loved it so much I even went back and bought more!

On top of being delicious, Voskos yogurt is all natural, fat free, and high in protein (the blueberry flavor has 13 grams of protein for example). I've only tried the blueberry flavor so far, but I see that this yogurt also comes in honey, honey vanilla, raspberry, fig, and strawberry flavors. The blueberry flavor is 120 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 0 grams of fiber, so 2 weight watchers points.

By the way -- sometimes I take the regular yogurts I buy at the store, and I put them in the freezer and let them freeze completely. What results is something in between an icy, ice cream, and frozen yogurt. It is really fun to eat, and the coldness forces you to eat it slowly and enjoy every bite, vs. when it is thawed and creamy. Frozen yogurt cups make a great dessert!

So, what is your favorite yogurt?

Enjoy!
Juliet

as you might have noticed that I've been trying new alternative greek yogurt lately and haven't found anything conmparable to Fage. I didn't see this one in WF, but I'll double check!
oh...I just reveal that Fage 2% is my fav, didn't I?

I love Fage 0% as well. One of the few fat free foods I really like. I never eat it plain though. I typically add fruit and brown sugar or ranch dressing powder or cucumber (you get the picture.)

The closest Whole Foods is an hour away so I only get there a couple times a year, but will add the Voskos to my list.

I think my favorite is full fat Greek topped with raisins - but I usually get the 2% or 0% kind :)

I've never tried this brand, but I need to because plain greek yogurt is currently my favorite!

These sound great! Are they actually produced in Greece? Because I have never heard of them and the blueberry flavor is not something you would find in Greek products. But the name is Greek! I'm intrigued. Fage is one one the leading dairy companies in Greece and is famous for the low-fat yogurts and feta cheese. They are available in some European countries but I had no clue they are sold in U.S. until I saw it on your blog!!

I'm excited to try these, especially since they're fat-free. Love the idea of putting them in the freezer and can't believe I've never thought of that. Thanks!

My favorite yogurt is Chobani Greek yogurt. I buy the plain, non-fat, add a dash of vanilla extract, a bit of agave nectar for sweetness and a heaping tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder to make chocolate yogurt. Then I top it with mixed nuts and pomegranate seeds. Its one of my favorite breakfasts ... having some right now ... and Chobani has a whopping 18 grams of protein!

I'm going to try freezing now too. :)

Ever since I first tried Voskos with honey a while back, I have been hooked! I LOVEEE how the ingredients for the honey is simply the milk/yogurt and honey. Can't get much more simple than that. hehe

I've tried Greek yogurt before but can't get past the terrible taste.

I want to try again but I don't know - Greek yogurt may be the threshold I can't get over.

Hm. You might be thinking of goat's milk yogurt. Greek yogurt is just like thick creamy yogurt.

I love 0% Fage and eat it all the time with a wide variety of add ins. Maple syrup is a particular favorite!

I'm also a fan of Siggi's Icelandic style skyr strained nonfat yogurt from Whole Foods. The texture is amazing, and they have very interesting flavors. The one I had today was Orange & Ginger. They are sweetened with agave nectar, and the orange & ginger is also 120 cal/0 fat/0 fiber 2 WW points. I thought it was well worth 2 points because, well, it was quite yummy, and the 16 grams of protein make it a wise use of points in my book.

I have yet to try Voskos, but really want to! So far my favorite greek yogurt is chobani :)

Unfortunately, I heard that freezing yogurt kills some of the natural, good components that are in it, such as the bacteria cultures that are good for our systems.

I second Siggi's Icelandic style skyr- know the owner and they take great care to use all the right ingrediants. Comparable to Fage, but the flavors are much tastier.

I absolutely LOVE Voskos brand Greek Yogurt. I discovered it a few weeks ago and it become part of my daily routine. The honey flavor is my favorite! I went to a different store than usual last week and they didn't have my Voskos brand so I got the Fage yogurt with honey on the side. Needless to say, it was not what I expected. I was severely disappointed. I will never stray from Voskos again.

I haven't had a chance to try Voskos yet; just Fage and Oikos. Fabulous yogurts. Next on my list are Chobani, Voskos and Athenos. I'll be avoiding the so-called Greek Gods...
