Low Calorie Tandoori Naan

low calorie naan indian foodI love Indian food and I absolutely adore naan. It is just *so good* - probably one of my all-time favorite foods. I'm actually going to India really soon, and I have to say, I'm extremely excited about finally getting to eat authentic Indian food, including actual naan made in India!

In case you don't know what naan is -- it is a delicious authentic indian flat bread that is cooked in a clay tandoori oven. It can be somewhat crispy on the outside, and is usually perfectly chewy and thick on the inside. The unfortunate issue with naan, though, is that, like most flour based foods, it is usually very high in calories! In fact, every piece of fresh naan I've found in the grocery store has been more than 250 calories per piece (sometimes more than 400 calories)! And, that just doesn't work considering that a piece of naan will never be an entire meal on its own (no matter how good it tastes).

So, a few months ago I bloggged about one of my favorite low calorie indian meals -- Kofta Curry that is 200 calories and 4 weight watchers points with delicious Trader Joe's Naan that is only 180 calories and 3 weight watchers points. Since then, I've found another equally good frozen naan made by "Tandoor Chef" available at Whole Foods (for those of you that don't have access to a Trader Joes). This naan is 182 (corrected from 162) calories per 85 gram piece, 2 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber (also 3 weight watchers points). It is entirely natural with no preservatives or additives. And, it is delicious!

I'll be blogging in the not to distant future about a recipe we have where we made our own dish to go with this naan. Until then, I'd love to hear what you eat with naan.

Enjoy!
Juliet

I don't know if they changed the recipe or something, but I went to buy the Tandoor Chef naan today and they are now 182 calories per naan. Oh well. Interchangeable with the Trader Joe's kind!
