Low Fat Graham Crackers – And Low Calorie S'Mores!

low calorie graham crackers
One of the best low-cal snack idea options may be one that you’ve loved for years. The graham cracker! Yes, that childhood favorite need not be on your list of can’t-haves. I recall nights in front of the fire as a child when my girlfriends and I would make s’mores treats and tell ghost stories until we were too scared to go to our tents. You can bring the nostalgia and goodness of the graham cracker into your diet and healthy lifestyle with a great new cracker from Health Valley – Health Valley’s Original Oat Bran Graham Crackers.

Now I like to eat these with low-cal peanut butter or PB2 (can someone say ‘yum’) but I also have revised the traditional s’more using healthier ingredients and I’ll get to that in just a bit. Back to Health Valley – these graham crackers have that same familiar taste that you love but are created with much better ingredients than most graham crackers that have partially hydrogenated oils in them – ICK! I have used these graham crackers in recipes that call for them – such as when making a graham cracker crust to die for and that is less fattening than traditional crusts. That’s perfect for the upcoming holidays like Thanksgiving.

Health Valley’s Original Oat Bran Graham Crackers are made from all organic wheat and oat bran, and they are naturally low in fat and sodium. Sweetened with cane juice and natural vanilla flavoring with just the right hint of cinnamon and molasses, you still get the mild sweetness that is typical of the traditional graham cracker – and the crunch! Six crackers has just 120 calories, 3 grams of fat, no cholesterol, 3 grams of protein, and 3 grams of dietary fiber (so just 2 weight watchers points, for six crackers). Yep, they are definitely worth a second look if you like graham crackers! And, you can buy them at your local Safeway stores or online at Amazon.

Now, to make my yummy modified s’mores….

You’ll need: Healthy Valley Original Oat Bran Graham Crackers, low-fat marshmallows, Hershey’s All Natural Extra Dark Chocolate Single Serve bite-sized bars. Assemble the s’mores treats as you normally would. We have made these while camping the traditional way with a roasting fork over the campfire, but we have also made due with microwaving the s’more for about 15 seconds on high power in the microwave – which makes more sense if you want to enjoy this treat year round.

Additionally, if you are looking for other diet friendly crackers, you should also check out my postings on low calorie chocolate crackers, whole grain cracker flats, sour cream and onion baked rice krisps, or low calorie cheeze-it crackers.

Enjoy!
Juliet

I loooove graham crackers--love that you can get them low-fat too!! I think my favorite way to eat em would have to be with peanut butter, but s'mores come in at a close second!
